ARTIST STATEMENT
In my artistic practice, I seek forms that give expression to human existential and spiritual experiences. My work draws on the rich traditions of sacred art, surrealism, and the abstract movements of the second half of the 20th century. I also find inspiration in Japanese woodblock prints and calligraphy.
A recurring element in my art is the sign — which becomes the central figure of a landscape, a space for expressing inner states. These explorations materialize in two main painting cycles: Songs, created on wooden panels, and Metaphysical Landscape, developed primarily on canvas and paper.
The themes I return to most often revolve around the experience of loneliness, the condition of enslavement (understood both as human frailty and as entanglement in geopolitical circumstances), and reflections on the existence of the Absolute — or its absence.
In addition to painting, I also work in wood sculpture and create scale models, which offer a three- dimensional continuation of the ideas explored in my paintings.
